Ready to lead in CVSD

My name is Asheleigh Forsburg, and I’m running for Cumberland Valley School Board in Hampden Township. I am committed to the education of every child in CVSD, and I hope you’ll take a moment to learn more about me and what I think we can do to make a better future for our schools.

Issues

No book bans

I support the freedom to read, free of censorship or suppression, as it is essential to our Democracy. School libraries should have age-appropriate materials that reflect the diversity of the school and interests of its students.

Fact-based history

History should be taught based on fact, context and impact on current events, to prepare students to be active and informed citizens.

Safety

All children should feel safe to attend school without fear of violence or risk to their well-being.

Support our teachers

Our educators should be supported and listened to, as they are the experts in the field.

Individualized support

All children should be supported and helped to achieve their fullest potential, whatever that looks like for the individual.

Fiscal Responsibility

Taxpayer dollars should be used responsibly and additional revenue sources should be identified.

College and career prep

Not every child will attend college after High School, and our educational approach should reflect the opportunities in a 21st century economy. I want to help expand career and vocational opportunities within the district.

About me

As a mother of two wonderful children in Cumberland Valley, I’m deeply committed to supporting our teachers and schools. I’ve greatly enjoyed my time in the classroom as a room parent, a Junior Achievement volunteer, and a reading volunteer for the American Literacy Corporation.

My career is in nonprofits focused on educating the public on various social and health issues. I’m a graduate of the Milton Hershey School, Messiah University, and Canisius University. I’m looking forward to using my experience to help Cumberland Valley provide the best possible education for all our students.

On October 12th The League of Women Voters of Pennsylvania Capital Region hosted a Candidate Forum for all Cumberland Valley School Board candidates. Every candidate was invited, and all but two participated. Becuase many members of the community were not able to attend, I have included the questions and my answers below. Question 1. The…

Schools Should Be a Safe Place for our Kids

Another school shooting, another day of “thoughts and prayers”. It’s sickening to me that our children, teachers, and school staff need to fear violence simply going to school. Yes, violence can happen anywhere, but the fact that schools are specifically targeted is disgusting. This is an issue that doesn’t necessarily start in our schools but…
